An ever-increasing number of sites make downloadable sheet music
available in either MusicXML format or original source file file formats
that can be converted to MusicXML. Here is a selected listing of sites
where you can download sheet music in MusicXML or compatible formats.

Music in MusicXML Format
- Wikifonia
is a free site that offers lead sheets (melody, lyrics, and chords)
in MusicXML format for personal use. This is a licensed site that
pays royalties to the copyright holders, so it is a leading choice
for finding current popular music in MusicXML format.

Sheet Music Digital
offers over 1,300 public domain MusicXML files for download. These
downloads are available for the site's platinum members, a service
available for $9.95/month.
- La mà de
guido is a music publishing house that specializes in music by
Spanish and Catalan composers. They sell music as MusicXML files, as
well as PDF files and print publications.
- The
Project Gutenberg Sheet Music Project has over 30 public domain
scores available for free download in MusicXML format, including the
Beethoven string quartets.
- Margaret Greentree's
JSBChorales.net site
offers the Bach chorales as free MusicXML files.
- Dave Marney's
New Hymns for Worship site
offer hymns composed by Marney and friends for free download as
MusicXML files.
- The
Hymns and Carols of
Christmas site offers a
collection of MusicXML files as a free download.
- The
Werner Icking Music Archive has many free sheet music files.
While many are in PDF format only, an increasing number are in
MusicXML format or MusicXML-compatible source formats like Finale
and capella.
- The
Hausmusik site (in German) offers free scores in a variety of
formats, including MusicXML format.
- The
Recordare online
store sells over 100 art songs in MusicXML format.
Music in MusicXML-Compatible Formats
- The Choral
Public Domain Library has over 10,000 choral and vocal public
domain scores available. Many of these are available in source file
formats (Finale, Sibelius, capella, Myriad, etc.) that can be
exported to MusicXML files.
- The
Finale Showcase
offers free downloads of Finale files contributed by the MakeMusic
user community. Finale, Finale
NotePad, and other MakeMusic products can export MusicXML files
from these Finale files.
